St. Stephens Cathedral is a landmark in the middle of Vienna's first district and Austria's most significant Gothic building. The impressive spire is home to a couple of art treasures. The top of the spire, after having climbed 343 stairs, is definitely worth a visit - enjoy the view! Guided tours are offered from Monday to Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., on Sundays and public holidays at 3 p.m.

Schönbrunn palace - Sisi's summer residence
Schönbrunn ist one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Europe. The wonderful gardens with Gloriette, as well as the world's oldest zoo invite for a visit.
Spend a day in Schönbrunn visiting the imperial apartments and salons with all their treasures. The Altstadt's hosts have vouchers for a visit of Schönbrunn palace with audioguide ("Grand Tour").

Until 1918, the Imperial Palace was the centre of the huge Habsburg empire. Three museums offer authentic historical insights of traditions and daily life at that time: The Imperial Apartments, showing the daily life of the monarchs, the Sisi Museum, devoted to the beautiful and celebrated empress, and the Imperial Silver Collection mirroring the splendor of imperial dining tables.

Furthermore, the Imperial Palace is home to the Spanish Riding School as well as to the chapel where you can hear the Vienna Boys Choir sing during Sunday mass.

The Vienna State Opera is hosting the famous Opera Ball every year and attracts visitors not only because of its architecture but also because of its music. Famouts artists, directors and conductors spoil the audience with great productions, making the State Opera to one of the world's most famous opera houses.

Visit Belvedere Palace, two baroque castles combined by a beautiful garden, which was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugen.

The Upper Belvedere is home to the world's biggest collection of pieces by Gustav Klimt, including "The Kiss". Moreover, works of art by Schiele and Kokoschka, the French Impressionists and the Wiener Biedermeier are exhibited.

Classical concerts - Vienna is world famous for classical music, visiting one should be on top of your to-do-list. Concerts in the Musikverein, hosting the New Year's concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in the Golden Hall, are among the best. A smaller, but excellent orchestra can be seen daily at the Palais Auersperg. The concerts at Schönbrunn Palace, where Mozart already used to play, are also worth a visit.
The Altstadt Vienna team is happy to assist you before or during check-in and also gets tickets for you.

The MuseumsQuartier is only a 5-minutes walk away from the Altstadt Vienna. The huge area of art and culture is located within the former stables of the Spanish Riding School. The architecture combines old and new in a unique and stylish way. Some of Vienna's best museums can be found there: Leopold Museum, MUMOK (museum of modern art), or the Kunsthalle, as well as design shops and comfortable restaurants and cafés. The inner court with its especially designed chairs is highly frequented during summer.

Taking a ride with the Giant Ferries Wheel, an elder landmark, built 1897 as the world's biggest ferries wheel, is recommended as the view from the top is amazing. The Giant Ferries Wheel can be found within the Prater, the green amusement park, where people take long walks on its main alley.

Vienna's City Hall is a huge neo-Gothic building on the Ringstraße and can be reached from the Altstadt Vienna within ten minutes. Either in summer or in winter - the city hall offers entertainment the entire year: During summer, the place in front of the city hall hosts an open air film festival. During winter, people visit Vienna's biggest Christmas market or iceskate in front of the beautifully illuminated scenery.
