Word Rap on Vienna

Only in Vienna:

If you need to get to the 1st floor of turn-of-the-century houses, you often have to contend with more flights of stairs than you might have expected, since the Viennese have invented floors in between such as the "Hochparterre" and "Mezzanin".

Better Elsewhere:

My Vices:

Viennese Pastries.

Sweet Vienna:

I really like the patisserie of “Joseph Brot” as well as the 12Munchies – you often come across an amazing selection of delicious specialties. For the classics I visit the Meierei in the Stadtpark: there you can get the best Kaiserschmarrn and apple strudel if you arrive at the right time, served to you straight out of the oven. In general, the Viennese coffeehouse culture is truly unique – frequent visits to Kaffee Prückl are always rewarding!

Hearty Vienna:

Schnitzel at the Amerling Beisl, Tafelspitz at Restaurant Wiener and goulash at Café Anzengruber.

Chic Vienna:

Loosbar – super bar, super drinks; Skopik&Lohn - the atmosphere and the menu are creative and filled with variety - one of my favorite places for an evening out.

After Dark:

Open-air ciinemas in summer, the Burgtheater is also always a highlight. I like the Prater Sauna, the Donau, Flex, Sass.

Not in any tourist guide

Small bars that win you over with a laid-back atmosphere, great places for a drink or two, for example the Donau, Tanzcafe Jenseits.

My Favorite Place

Brunnenmarkt area, especially during the market on Saturdays.

Those great, unique shops a little hidden away down the back alleys of Vienna, off the main shopping streets.

Selfie Spot:

Prater in front of the giant Ferris wheel or the chairoplane.

Something to skip, even if it's in the guide:

Avoid getting close to St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Kärtnerstraße & Graben on weekends during Advent.

In conclusion: What do I love about the city?

Vienna is marvelously charming. The mixture of historical and modern - and to put it quite simply: a great quality of life like nowhere else.
