Local Hero Simone Raihmann from Karma Food

The Altstadt Vienna is located at the Spittelberg, in the middle of the trendy 7th district. Or as others call it: Boboville. Our "Local Heroes" portraits give you an insight into a piece of real Vienna. From the perspective of real Viennese, our neighbors.

Karma Food - Boutique Hotel Altstadt Vienna

Why do you like the area? Why are you in the 7th district?

We just love to walk the streets of the 7th district with a Veganista ice cream in our hands. There is always something to discover - a new restaurant, a nice little shop or even art. For example the new mural by David Leitner, which he did during the Calle Libre festival.

What are you selling? What is your passion behind it?

At Karma Food you can take a break from your everyday hustle and recharge your batteries with a delicious ayurvedic curry or with a cup of Karma coffee and a piece of banana bread. We developed our own coffee roast that we developed with Philip from Jonas Reindl Coffee Roasters which is also available in our shops.

I feel a lot of neighborhood support and am inspired by all those amazing concepts around us.

Only in Vienna

The Viennese grumpiness, or better said the everyday poetry ;-) If you don't take it too seriously, you'll love it.

Better somewhere else

The combination of beach and city life  in Barcelona is just unbeatable.

Sweet Vienna

There are so many outstanding places: Marischka Wien (the city's best croissant), Viola Wien (those Cremeschnitten! you have to try them), Jonas Reindl Coffee Roasters (vegan lemon sponge cake, it's to die for!), Paremi (have a pain au chocolat and an espresso) and don't forget to visit Öfferl in Wollzeile (Cruffins in all variations, try them all).

Hearty Vienna

Zur Herknerin (here you'll find the best dumplings, by far and Stefanie is definitely the coolest host that I know), Gasthaus Woracziczky (pronounced: Woraschissky, where lovely Marion takes good care of her guests) and we also love to go to Rebhuhn, which is still one of our favorites.

After dark

Go to the brothers of Bruder (our favorite address for a cozy boozy evening and try the Brosecco), Monte Ofelio (super Campari Soda with the feeling of a short summer break in Italy), Hausbar (my biggest respect for the chef Parvin, fantastic wine accompaning the menu), Rinkhy Little Plates (a Canadian in Vienna who knows how to mix drinks and serves the best tapas along with them. Try his selection of canned fish), Café Kandl (wonderful dinner place with a selection of natural wine, cozy yard), R&Bar (natural wine as well and I am in love with the terrazzo bar and tables by Felix Muhrhofer), Loos Bar (a classic!).

Not in any tourist guide

The Admiralkino , an old cinema in Burggasse. We love the charme, they show arthouse and independent movies and once a month they even allow dogs.

Your favorite place

Nussberg is not only my but also my dog's favorite place. We love to go for a long walk through the vineyards, sit on a bench and look down on the city. You should definitely watch the sunset from up there, it is amazing. Have a grape juice or a glass of wine with it at Buschenschank Wieninger.

A must-see

The Wiener Wurstelprater at night and a ride with Prater Turm - you'll have the best views but it is also a challenge to be up in 117m hight. At the Museumsquartier go to Mumok and Leopold Museum for some art and relax afterwards on an Enzi in the sun (in winter ice stock sport and hot punch). Visit a Heurigen like the on of Jutta Ambrositsch or Weinbau Buschenschank Obermann, Fuhrgassl Huber, Wieninger am Nussberg, Weingut Feuerwehr Wagner (super vegan options!).

You can skip although in the guide book

Actually, you won't need a guide in Vienna. I recommend getting lost and surprised by the beauty of Vienna. There's something to discover on every corner. Just look up.

What do you love about the city?

I love the beautiful facades of the old buildings, the warm summer nights, the cozyniess and that there are always new ideas and events coming to town without loosing its very own character.
