Local Heroes: Miriam, Barbara and Montserrat / OIS.IN.AN

The Altstadt Vienna lies in the middle of the trendy 7th district. Or as others call it: Boboville. Our portraits "local heroes" provide you with an insight of the real Vienna. Experienced by real Viennese. Our neighbours.

Why do you like the area? Why are you in the 7th district?

The 7th district is just so wonderfully diverse. We love that you can get everything you need in the area: unusual ingredients and dishes, vegan ice cream and cool places to relax after a hard day at work. At the same time, the district also offers so much culture. A visit to a classical museum is just as possible as a visit to a gallery that exhibits young artists.

What are you selling? What is your passion behind it?

OIS.IN.AN was founded by our association “Educational Initiative for Disadvantaged Girls - Free Girls Movement”. The aim of our restaurant is to combine social issues with ecological sustainability. Our restaurant offers disadvantaged women with refugee / migration background or graduates of our association projects the opportunity to actively integrate into the Austrian labor market, to gain initial work experience and thus to be able to build an independent future in Austria. We want to prevent marginalization and bring these women into the middle of society. The profits are invested in further educational projects of our association "Free Girls Movement". We offer a safe space, free from racism and discrimination and promote the independence of women. We combine our passion for cuisine with our fight for women's rights.

Word Rap about Vienna

Only in Vienna:

Vienna is an open, progressive city that cares for social issues. The offer of social housing and the provision of social legal advice or support is unique in the world. That's also the reason for the great living quality in Vienna.

Better elsewhere:

Vienna is an excellent city, the only thing missing is access to the sea.

Sweet & savory Vienna:

We're probably a bit biased about that. We would like to invite you to our restaurant OIS.IN.AN for both sweet and savory. There is definitely something delicious for every taste and you can enjoy it for a good cause at the same time. :-)

When it gets dark:

A cocktail at Moby Dick.

Not in any tourist guide:

We haven't yet read a Vienna travel guide. We recommend not only visiting the inner districts of Vienna though, but also exploring the great parks, the city and/or the wine hiking trails.

Your favourite spot:

We feel comfortable almost everywhere in Vienna. So it is difficult to decide on just one favorite place.

A must-see?

Not only love, but also wanderlust goes through the stomach. Vienna's special culinary offer shouldn't be missed.

Can be skipped, although in all the tourist guides:

The Mariahilferstrasse. If you walk through the side streets of the 7th or 6th district, you will discover many more unique stores as well as cool and the hip bars.

What do you love about Vienna?

The openness, the versatility and the great architecture.
