Local Heroes: Katharina & Katie / Atelier Lindengasse

The Altstadt Vienna lies in the middle of the trendy 7th district. Or as others call it: Boboville. Our portraits "local heroes" provide you with an insight of the real Vienna. Experienced by real Viennese. Our neighbours.

The two goldsmiths about the beauty of the Central Cemetary and where to find friendly waiters.

Why do you like the area? Why are you in the 7th district?

The 7th district consistently surprises us with hidden gems, green backyards and little shops and studios of young artists and designers. With its numerous charming cafes and restaurants, as well as great bars, the area is a perfect mix for design and food lovers.

What are you selling? What is your passion behind it?

We are a communal studio of 2 designers with a deep passion for unique jewellery and high quality manufacturing. In our showroom we present our handmade collections and singletons next to our work bench.

At one glance you can recognize our particular thumbprint in puristic, rough or organic forms with charming details. Our studio in Lindengasse is a space for creativity, to find you very personal piece of jewellery with individual consulting.

Word Rap about Vienna

Only in Vienna:
Heurigen – enjoying a glass of wine and regional specialities in the middle of a vineyard, watching the sun set on a warm summer evening. Is there anything better?

Sirbu is one of our favourites, and one of many Heurigen in Vienna’s vineyards. Very authentic and pristinely.

„Grumpy“ waiters – if you can take them with humour, you’ll probably find a new friend.

„Öffis“ (public transport) – e.g. exploring the city with one of the tramways on Ringstrasse or just making your way from A to B for little money. It’s the easiest thing in Vienna.

Better somewhere else:
The ocean – if Vienna had access to the sea, it would be just perfect. Otherwise there’s nothing to complain about this city.

Sweet Vienna:
The ice cream store La Gelateria Romana (around the corner from our studio) – in our opinion the best ice cream of the city. If possible, we would only feed on Straciatella and Pistacchio ice cream.

Hearty Vienna:
The restaurant Otto Bauer – modern international dishes in a living room atmosphere and nice surrounding. Afterwards you should start into the night in one of the great bars in Zollergasse or Kirchengasse.

When it gets dark...
Restaurant Mochi – reservation recommended! They have really great japanese dishes with a modern touch. If you can’t get a table, you might also cross the street to their take away shop OMK and grab some things, that you can enjoy outdoors if the weather is fine.

In summer, chilling besides Donaukanal is our favourite things. We like Tel Aviv Beach.

Not in any tourist guide:
A walk through the Central Cemetary – it might sound a bit spooky, but it isn’t at all. The jewish part ist he most wonderful, definitely an insider tip with its raw nature and free-running deer

At full moon in summer book a boat ride with picknick on the Old Danube at Hofbauer.

Your favorite place:
Cha no ma – a sweet little Japanese teahouse next to Naschmarkt. They have delicious matcha drinks and unique snacks served by super-lovely staff.

A must-see?
If you choose from the classical tourist attractions, you should definitely visit Cafe Demel. On the one hand, it is located in a beautiful historic building and on the other hand you can watch unbelievably talented patissiers creating the most fabulous cakes. This together with the coffee and the outstanding service of the very friendly staff makes it worth a visit. Starting from there, you can easily explore the inner city, the classic Vienna.

You can skip although in the guide book:
Fiaker (horse carriage) – there are more animal friendly ways to explore the city. The best way is to get a Citybike and ride around the Ring.

What do you love about the city?
Vienna is like one big living room. It’s all a bit more slowly and more comfortable than in other big cities. For us, it is a perfect melange.
