Elena's
Vienna
Insider Tips from
Elena Kuhn
Creative marketing all-rounder Elena on charming self-irony, numerous snack spots and cafés.
Only in Vienna
This charming self-irony, wine taverns and the numerous sidewalk cafés in summer. And, of course, the Opera Ball.
Better elsewhere
Mountains. I particularly miss the Swiss Pre-Alps and the Jura Mountains here in summer.
Your Vice
Darting into the kitchen every hour for a snack, French soft cheese, expensive barista coffee.
Sweet Vienna
Apricots, in all variations.
Savory Vienna
There are so many great restaurants! My current favourites are Café Azzurro and Bruder. Or, for something a little more relaxed, Tachles in the 2nd district.
Chic Vienna
The 1st district.
When it's getting dark
Linger in a café and chat about everything under the sun, for example at Café Espresso, Café Kriemhild or, later in the evening, at Stehbeisl.
Not in any tourist guide
That you don't need a tourist guide in Vienna. When you're out and about on foot, you automatically pass the most amazing places and sights.
Your favourite spot
The Danube Island during the day and the empty streets of the city centre at night.
Not to be missed
The Viennese vineyards when it's warm and sunny, Hermann's Würstelstand in the evening.
Selfie Spot
I'm not a fan of selfies, but capturing the different moods between Vienna's alleys, facades and rooftops is always beautiful.
Can be missed, despite being found in tourists guides
Coffee and cake at Café Central or Demel. There are so many other places to enjoy Viennese coffee house culture that are also more cosy.
Finally: What do you love about Vienna?
Vienna feels like home, almost everything is within walking distance or easily accessible by the well-developed public transport network, there is so much culture to discover and always new bars and cafés to explore.
