Andy Warhol

The Altstadt Vienna’s collection once held a self-portrait of egocentric American Pop-Art artist Andy Warhol. Until, one day, it disappeared. Not stolen, it should be duly noted. Actually, it had been taken for framing, but then forgotten for years. Until, in 2014, the slogan “I slept with Warhol” was thought up for a new campaign at the Altstadt. Which only really works, of course, when you do actually have a Warhol. At that point one remembers that likeness of the wildly coiffed New Yorker. Since re-framed, today it hangs in the home of another Warhol lover. 

For the sake of the slogan, we went ahead and bought a new Warhol at auction in 2015. Where it is? For the answer, you will have to explore a room or two here at the Altstadt Vienna yourself.
