The Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (* 1870 † 1956) was one of the most important protagonists of Viennese Modernism. Together with Koloman Moser, he founded the production community "Wiener Werkstätte", which aimed to overcome the booming Art Nouveau ornamentation of the French style and elevate Vienna to a center of tasteful culture. Our Room #36 is a tribute to Hoffmann's manufacturing artistry and modern vision. In addition to original pieces from the Art Nouveau period, you'll also find contemporary furniture designs, such as a sofa by Spanish star designer Jaime Hayon, who drew inspiration for this design piece from Hoffmann's bat chair. The collage "Atmosphere I" by German artist Kirsten Borchert (* 1986) deliberately breaks the aesthetic of the room. The feeling created: colorful and monochrome, old and new, flirtatious and restrained. Another homage to an important Austrian design pioneer can be found in Josef Frank Suite #78.
