How is it you are all so nice?
We do what we do with joy, and we love nothing more than to share that joy with you through our radiant disposition. People are the focus of all we do. We treat each other with respect, treasuring the strengths and uniqueness of everyone. "If our staff are doing good, our guests do good, too. What is included in the price?
How many people can stay in a room?
If you come with friends or family, you can either have us set up an extra bed, book one of our suites with 2 bedrooms (Grete Wiesenthal Suite #79 or United Nations Suite #73 + #74) or reserve rooms with connecting doors - allowing as many as 5 people to stay here together. Explore our charming Orient Express bunk bedroom, connected via a private door to our Double Room Large #56 – a family-friendly setup with a hint of adventure and nostalgia.
The tiniest travelers (up to 3 years) stay with us free of charge. Upon request, we’re happy to provide a travel cot in your room – complete with a small cuddly toy to make our youngest guests feel right at home. For older children, teenagers, or additional adults, we are happy to prepare an extra bed in our suites for an additional charge of 60,00 Euro per night.
Do you have WiFi?
WiFi is of course available free of charge and throughout the hotel.
Parking: how, when, where?
Parking Garage
Just in front of the hotel there is a loading zone where you can park your car to unload your bags – and step inside to pick up your blue parking card at the reception. get a blue parking ticket at the recption. The blue card allows you to enter the public garage in the Museumsquartier - approx. 7 minutes by foot from the hotel (Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna). Parking costs 20,00 Euro per 24 hours and will be added directly to your room bill. After leaving the garage, simply return the blue card to reception. Would you prefer a hands-off arrival or a smooth farewell? Let us assist you with our valet service – we’ll gladly park or retrieve your car, upon availability. Each service is 15,00 Euro and of course always handled with care.
Parking on the street
Parking is free on weekends, but you have to find a parking space which is not always easy. Parking during the week is generally permitted for up to 2 hours only - however, the hotel offers day parking permits for the seventh district for 20,00 Euro per day. A limited number of these permits are available at reception.
How do I get from the airport to the hotel?
We gladly arrange an airport transfer for you. The rate is 65,00 Euro per car (max. 3 people and 3 pieces of luggage) or 105,00 Euro for a minivan (up from 4 to 8 people with luggage). It takes about 20 - 30 minutes to get to the Altstadt Vienna. If you want us to organize the pick-up, please let us know your departure destination, your arrival date and time as well as your flight number.
You can also use public transport. You can either take the train (S7) or the CAT (City Airport Train) to the City Air Terminal Wien-Mitte. From Wien-Mitte please take the underground line U3 until Volkstheater. Take the exit Burggasse, make a left and follow Burggasse for about 5 to 7 minutes. After the second traffic light, turn right into Kirchengasse. Our hotel - Kirchengasse 41 – has a grey canopy above the front door. A ticket for the S7 costs 2,40 Euro or 4,20 Euro incl. the subway ride.
When can I check in?
Arriving and checking in is possible at any time! Your room is ready for you from 3 pm, guaranteed. However, before that you are welcome to leave your luggage with us, get some tips, take care of all formalities, go explore the city or have breakfast (35,00 Euro) or a cup of tea in our salon.
When is breakfast?
We serve breakfast from the buffet with organic and regional specialties on weekdays from 06:30 - 11:00 am and on weekends from 07:00 - 11:30 am.
Is there a bar?
Yes! Our red salon is breakfast room, bar and living room at the same time. Whether you want to end the day with a glass of Austrian Whisky, or if you're hungry for a late night snack, we will take care of you. Fruit and our Kusmi tea buffet are complimentary all day long. And on top of that we treat you with a slice of homemade cake in the afternoon from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
When is check-out? Can I store by luggage afterwards?
Check-out is by no later than 12 pm. However, you are more than welcome to store your bags in the luggage room next to the reception area and pick it up whenever it is convenient. Upon request we also have a bathroom available where you can freshen up again before departing.
From which manufacturer are the beds at the Altstadt?
You will be sleeping on 1.80 m wide mattresses from the French manufacturer Maison Tréca, which has been using traditional manufacturing methods and attention to detail for over 80 years.
Help, I have an allergy!
No worries, we got you covered! Just give us a quick heads up and we can organize (almost) everything for you. However, our breakfast of course offers many vegan and vegetarien choices. We are also happy to bake gluten-free bread products for you.
Our bed linens are hypoallergenic. For the basic cleaning of our rooms we use Hyla, a special cleaning system that removes fine dust particles, gasses, allergens and mites.

How far is it to the city center?
The Altstadt Vienna is located at the foot of the Spittelberg, ca. 5min from the MuseumsQuartier and the Mariahilfer Straße, Vienna's longest shopping street. You are about a 10-minute walk from Hofburg Palace, the city hall and parliament, while the State Opera and St. Stephen's Cathedral are around 20 minutes on foot. The nearest station for the underground is barely 5 min walking distance from here.
Where can I buy tickets for public transport as well as the Vienna Card?
24, 48 and 72-hour tickets for the underground, trams and buses can be obtained at the reception desk of the Altstadt Vienna. If you plan to spend 2 days or more in Vienna, we recommend the Vienna Card, which includes, in addition to public transportation, a variety of discounts for entrance tickets, coffeehouses as well as shopping.
What is there to do in Vienna?
Vienna boasts some of the highest quality of life worldwide. So, go for it - and experience everything the city has to offer! Vienna is a city of music, with a spectrum of art and culture that is quite beyond compare. Many events, especially in summer, are free. Our receptionists will be glad to help you obtain tickets for the opera, a ballet, concert, theater play or perhaps an interesting exhibition. And we always have current information available.
