Local Hero Stefanie Herkner from "Zur Herknerin"

The dumpling queen about the world's best water and the longing for a wilder nightlife.

What do you like about the area? What is your relation to the 7th district?

I was virtually born in Mondscheingasse and so I spent my whole childhood and adolescence in the 7th district. Every corner tells bits of my story.
But my inn is in the 4th district, near Naschmarkt.

What can one buy in your store? What is your passion behind it?

I grew up in a family of chefs, so I am trying to preserve and pass on the flavors of my childhood. Besides a lot of classical Viennese recipes we offer different dumplings. I also hold cooking classes where one can learn the art of making dumplings.

Only in Vienna

It's grumpy and charming at once ;-)
In any case, we have the world's best drinking water.

Better somewhere else

That's difficult, since I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but in Vienna. But there could be a wilder and more versatile nightlife.

Sweet Vienna

The old pastry shop Sluka near Rathaus - as a child I used to be treated with an ice cream after visiting the dentist.

Hearty Vienna

Rudi´s Beisl – it is and remains one of my favorite restaurants.

When it gets dark

A ride on the Wiener Riesenrad.
And, because it's legendary: Loos American Bar!

Not in any tourist guide

The look-out on Wilhelminenberg with an outstanding view over Vienna and the Wienerwald. The hike up there really pays off.

Your favorite place

The Wiener Eislaufverein - the largest and oldest ice-skating rink in Vienna - on a Sunday morning.

Must-see

You can skip, although in the guide

The tourist bus-lines. It's much nicer to ride along the Ring on a tram.

What do you love about the city?

Vienna is a metropolis, but it seems like time is running with a lower pace. I love the "Wiener Gemütlichkeit".
