Lilli
Hollein

The Austrian curator and cultural manager is director of the Vienna Design Week design festival, which she co-founded and that has been held annually in Vienna in autumn since 2007. In September 2021, Lilli Hollein will take over as general director of the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK).

Together with Markus Eiblmayr, the design expert has created an exhibition space of contemporary Viennese design craftsmanship at Altstadt Vienna. With a conscious effort to represent the up-and-coming Viennese scene, almost all pieces in the room are designed in Austria. An emerald divan by Patrycja Domanska, a chandelier sculpture from the pen of design studio Chmara Rosinke and a high table made of tree trunks by Sebastian Menschhorn - as a reference to the classic fireplace - are in dialog with a carpet designed by Hollein and Eiblmayr themselves. An all embracing space-enlarging mirrored wall in reference to Adolf Loos and a grey cloudy wallpaper by Piero Fornasetti and realized by Cole and Son create the framework of the presentation of the design pieces. The design of the latter reminds Hollein of the grumpy Viennese temper. A twofold homage to two pioneers of modern design.

By the way, you can unwind in Marco Dessi's "Mono" chair - in Suite #67 in a luminous yellow print by Raf Simmons - in our red salon too.
