Altstadt
Tour #21
Helga and Previous Tenants
Named after a longtime employee and family member of our joinery Göbel, whose first job was to install the front door to this very room.
In Helga’s Room, contemporary design stands side by side with objects that carry a past. One such piece is the chandelier, a delicate Lobmeyr creation from the 1930s. It originally hung here back in the 1950s—but not as part of a hotel room. It adorned the living room of a private apartment. When the owner moved, the piece went with her. Decades later, her daughter rediscovered the chandelier among her belongings—and brought it home, to its original place. Today, it glows once again above Helga’s Room, this time at the Altstadt Vienna.
Another chapter of Viennese design history is written by the furniture in the room, made by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna. The iconic furniture manufacturer has been shaping spaces since 1853, and their creations are now hailed as milestones of industrial-era design. In Helga’s Room, you’ll discover not only classic Thonet pieces, but also contemporary interpretations—such as the Allegory Desk, the Mos Cabinet, and the Peers Side Table. And if your curiosity is sparked, you’ll find even more Thonet treasures in our Thonet Suite #15.
