Doppelzimmer Large #21 - Helgas Room - Boutique Hotel Altstadt Vienna

Altstadt
Tour #21

Helga and Previous Tenants

Named after a longtime employee and family member of our joinery Göbel, whose first job was to install the front door to this very room.

In Helga's Room, you'll find contemporary design alongside pieces with history. For example, the chandelier from the 1930s by the glass manufacturer Lobmeyr, which was already hanging here in the 1950s. At that time, however, it was still a piece of jewelry in the living room of an apartment, not a hotel room. The owner moved and took the good piece with her. Decades later, the daughter found the filigree glass chandelier in the estate and returned it to its original place - now in the Hotel Altstadt Vienna.

A photograph by Annie Leibovitz (*1949) and a sculpture by Cameroonian-born visual artist Pascal Martin Tayou (*1967) also find a place in Helga's Room. A light installation by the latter can be discovered in the hallway outside Camilla Suite #62 and contains a special message. Verner Panton's iconic chair design could also be described as a gem. The design of this futuristic-looking chair also dates back to the 1950s.
