Elfrid
Wimmer-Repp
Architect Elfrid Wimmer-Repp has been accompanying the Altstadt Vienna since the beginning as a guest and designer. Her signature be found in rooms #1 to #9, as it was she who was the executive architect on site for Matteo Thun. With the adjacent rooms #10 and #12, she has created further jewels for us. For her latest project, she delved into the legacy of Sigmund Freud and gave our Freud Suite a fresh makeover.
For Elfrid the Viennese way of living is an interplay of different styles and epochs, which Vienna represents as a cosmopolitan city and metropolis. With room #12 the architect has brought the charm of the 50s-70s into the Altstadt Vienna. The room is dominated by a color composition of ocher yellow, midnight blue and shades of gray. The "Votteler Chair" by Walter Knoll, designed in the 1950s, and its lounge chair counterpart by Hay today are also in dialogue here. The floor-to-ceiling ocher print wallpaper has a theatrical effect on the space. Created another place, which complements the versatility of the mosaic Altstadt Vienna. A feel-good space.
Room #10 is a harmonious interplay of rich brown, delicate rose and radiant yellow. It seems as if the colors of the artwork by Robin Christian Andersen (*1890 † 1969) in the room have been stripped away and reapplied in the room. As an accent, the bathroom stands out with its radiant mosaic in turquoise.
The Freud Suite #63, newly redesigned by Wimmer-Repp in 2024, offers a fascinating journey into the past and the thought world of Sigmund Freud. With her deep understanding of historical significance, the architect has succeeded in creating a space that honors the past through a harmonious blend of old and new while providing modern comfort.
